Hanoi (VNA) — Recently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development approved the action plan for the implementation of the goals, tasks and solutions of the National Strategy for Green Development for 2021-30 and the vision for 2050.

Accordingly, agriculture is sustainable, ecological, organic, circular development and low carbon emissions increasing the quality of growth, increasing added value and competitiveness, reducing environmental pollution in agricultural production and rural areas, using energy and natural resources effectively and efficiently towards a carbon-neutral economy by 2050.

Specifically, the GDP growth rate agricultural sector it is expected to reach 2.5-3% per year.

The agricultural sector will focus on improving efficiency in land, water, water resources, forests and biodiversity conservation. With one million hectares receiving sustainable forest management certificates, forest cover rates will be maintained at 42%.

The sector has set a goal to have more than 30% of the specific weight of organic fertilizer products and biological plant protection substances in the total fertilizers and plant protection substances produced and consumed, and at least 30% of the total cultivated area to use advanced and water saving methods. irrigation methods.

In addition to converting 300,000 hectares of paddy fields into other crops with high economic and ecological efficiency, the agricultural sector is trying to increase ecologically clean farmland to more than 2% of the total area. it is approximately 2-3 percent of the total livestock product produced in the country.

At the same time, the application of good agricultural production practices will be expanded to improve quality, added value and competitiveness, as well as to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in agricultural production.

The process of new rural development must be accelerated to meet the green and sustainable development goals and to shape an environmentally and nature-friendly lifestyle.

To achieve the above objectives, the cultivation sector will change its product structure according to market preferences and needs, and form specialized and large-scale commodity production areas in each region, adapting to climate change.

The sector will promote the adoption of advanced production processes to reduce the use of fertilizers and chemical pesticides that cause environmental pollution and farmland degradation and greenhouse gas emissions.

For the livestock industry, small-scale production will move to large-scale farms to form key areas of livestock production related to environmental protection, biosecurity and technology application.

All livestock production facilities, slaughterhouses and livestock processing facilities must have appropriate environmental control solutions to ensure that they do not occur. environmental pollution and efficient use of livestock waste sources for cultivation, aquaculture, insect breeding and renewable energy production requirements.

For fisheries, the industry must synchronously implement solutions to protect and develop sustainable water resources, as well as breed new aquaculture species with high efficiency, good disease resistance and climate adaptability, in accordance with international standards and practices.

The industry will regulate fishing intensity and structure to ensure efficiency and sustainability in biodiversity conservation.

In forestry production, it is necessary to expand the areas of concentrated planting materials, restore natural forests, develop agroforestry and non-timber forest products in the direction of commodity production.

In addition, the sector will focus on expanding certified forest areas for sustainable management, enhancing forest ecosystem services for income generation, and harnessing potential new services such as ecotourism, carbon sequestration and storage services.

Environmental pollution in the processing of agricultural, forestry and fishery products should be fought.

Preservation and development of traditional craft villages, linking of economic activity with tourism services, preservation of traditional culture, creation of jobs and income will be encouraged.

Enterprises and households in rural craft villages and manufacturing facilities will be assisted to invest in technology and equipment innovation to increase energy efficiency and reduce pollution in production, and to develop OCOP (One Commune One Product Program) towards a circular economy. .

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will continue to research, review and finalize a set of national criteria for new rural areas at all levels to meet the requirements of green and sustainable development.

The ministry will also complement mechanisms and policies to promote green development in agriculture and strengthen human resource training for green and ecological agriculture, digital transformation, and advanced technology applications that serve the efficient use of natural resources and environmental protection.
