Southern Colorado Window World American Humanitarian Awards

Washington, DC, Oct. 31, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — American Humane, the nation’s first national humane organization and the world’s largest certifier of animal welfare practices, announced today that Window World of Southern Colorado is a franchisee of the largest outdoor renovator. in Colorado Springs, USA, awarded the organization a grant to support the Pups4Patriots™ program. Pups4Patriots provides free, specially trained service dogs, including rescues, to veterans diagnosed with post-traumatic stress or traumatic brain injury.

“Our Pups4Patriots program has saved countless lives by putting healing cords in the hands of veterans in need across the country,” said Dr. Robin Ganzert, President and CEO of American Humane. “This critical mission to help our veterans would not be possible without the generosity of organizations like Window World of Southern Colorado. Their charitable grant will help us provide the life-saving love and support that has finished serving us.”

Proceeds from the grant supported the pairing of US military veteran Jacob with his new service dog, Minnie. The couple was officially introduced as graduates of the program in September.

“As we go through training and we’re able to focus not only on our dog, but on the next step and knowing our dog is there, we’re not focused on the things around us because our partner has a right. there,” Jacob said at the Pups4Patriots graduation. “Our partner is paying attention to us, so ultimately we’re kind of.”

Local Southern Colorado Window World franchise owners Chris & Kiersten Lehmkuhl learned about the Pups4Patriots program at this summer’s Window World Family Reunion in Phoenix, where a veteran and a new corporate-sponsored service dog were introduced. Following the parent company’s lead, Window World of Southern Colorado became the first of more than 225 franchises to support the program.

“We couldn’t have imagined a more perfect opportunity to lend a helping hand. The ability to foster a local veteran from our southern Colorado community with a rescue dog in need of a loving home and family and have them paired and trained by such caring and skilled teams at American Humane fits perfectly with our foundation. beliefs and mission,” said Kiersten Lehmkuhl. “Everyone at Window World of Southern Colorado is a proud supporter of our active duty military, veterans and their families. We cannot thank them enough for all their sacrifices. The Pups4Patriots program is one small step in supporting our veterans, and we hope others will join in.

To date, American Humane has provided service dogs and training to more than 200 veterans across the country.

“We are very grateful for Window World Southern Colorado’s support in this important work,” said Dr. Ganzert. “Through their generous grants, we were able to help put a healing belt in the hands of one more veteran who will go on to live the full and rich life they deserve.”

Service dogs are an invaluable asset to traumatized veterans, but there are significant barriers to their adoption. Properly training a dog to perform necessary tasks and remain calm and alert in public can be expensive and time-consuming. Even if cost isn’t an obstacle, wait times can still be very long as veterans navigate red tape.

Through the Pups4Patriot program, American Humane provides free service dogs to veterans in a timely and efficient manner.

“[Minnie] It’s a partner that will help you get into scenarios you don’t always want to,” said Jacob. “Places you never thought you could go, this animal can now help you do those things. The word ‘never’ will be erased from your vocabulary.”
