A Chinese pet cloning company has announced the birth of the world’s first cloned Arctic wolf (Canis lupus arctos), this was done by an unexpected surrogate mother – a beagle.

A cloned female wolf cub named Maya and her beagle mother were introduced to the world in a short video at a press conference held by Sinogene Biotechnology Company in Beijing on September 19, according to a Chinese news site. Global Times (opens in new tab). The video was released 100 days after Maya was born: June 10, according to Sinogen representatives, in a laboratory in Beijing.
